The Concrete Cows

Milton Keynes' famous, tongue-in-cheek herd — the city's best-known landmark since 1978.

Created in 1978 by the American artist-in-residence Liz Leyh, the Concrete Cows are Milton Keynes' most famous — and most affectionately teased — landmark: a half-life-size herd of three cows and three calves.

The herd you'll usually spot grazing beside Monks Way in Bancroft are faithful replicas; Liz Leyh's original cows now live at Milton Keynes Museum. Over the years the cows have been painted, decorated and even briefly 'kidnapped' as pranks — all part of their legend.
